Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>It is at this point in time very likely that a new upward revision of fuel prices will take place this week, specifically between today, Thursday and tomorrow, Friday, points out the secretary general of the Mozambican Association of Oil Companies (AMEPETROL), in an exclusive interview with DE. Ricardo Cumbe explains that the global trend of rising prices prevails and will still be felt in the country over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

Thus, and without revealing absolute certainties on the matter, Ricardo Cumbe assumes that, probably, the price readjustment will be carried out on Thursday, July 21, as foreseen in the decree. \u201cThe usual update of fuel prices is carried out on Thursdays, according to the decree, but, as we know, the Government has not always followed this calendar. In fact, I don\u2019t even know the date, but I know that, from what the decree says, the increase should happen this week,\u201d said Cumbe.<\/p>\n

According to the AMEPETROL source, the preliminary work which should culminate in the decision on the price hike has already been carried out. \u201cWe sat down with the government, analysed the numbers and realised that, at this point, they are tending to rise. Unfortunately I can\u2019t share the exact numbers for the sake of professional ethics, but as I said, the trend is still upwards,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, given this scenario, the secretary-general of AMEPETROL advances that it is important for the country to invest in good communication of about pricing mechanisms so that citizens can be aware of the reasons for the increases, which are essentially due to the increase in prices in foreign markets and, as such, outside local control.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an international situation. All countries are facing the same challenges. Some [countries] with a little more intensity than others, depending on the legal regime, because when the legislation is flexible, the government itself very easily discusses and makes revisions that it believes will ensure that the structure is, in a certain way, reasonable, but not in our case,\u201d Cumbe concluded.<\/p>\n

According to the most recent Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) fuel price table, diesel currently costs 87.97 meticais per litre, against the previous 78.97 meticais, an increase of nine meticais, while gasoline rose from 83.30 meticais per litre to 86.97 meticais, and cooking gas from 85.53 meticais per kilogram to 102.02.<\/p>\n

Lighting oil also rose, and currently costs 75.58 meticais, against the previous 71.48 meticais.<\/p>\n
