Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources (MOPHRH) officially launched the Platform for the Implementation and Monitoring of Public Works Projects on Wednesday (07-20).<\/p>\n

This tool will help the department in the management and real-time monitoring of projects regarding their level of physical, financial execution and impact. Its launch falls within the scope of the ministry\u2019s Eighth Coordinating Council, which runs until Friday (22-07) in Mossuril, Nampula province.<\/p>\n

Minister Mesquita said that the digital platform would enable his ministry to continually assess the degree of execution of the objectives and targets of the Economic and Social Plan and the State Budget.<\/p>\n

The platform would likewise enable the evaluation of the five-year programme, sharing information with stakeholders including government institutions, cooperation partners and the general public. \u201cOur greatest ambition is the reliable and efficient management of projects,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n

The minister also referred in his speech to the launch, on Friday, 22 July, in Nampula, of the Mozambique Northern Urban Development Project, financed by the Mozambican government and the World Bank, and also the signing of the Agreement Regulation between AURA and the government of the district of Mussoril, which aims to establish an effective and mutually respectful partnership between AURA, IP and the district government to implement a local regulatory regime for water supply and sanitation systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project, to be implemented, in a first phase, in the municipalities of Nampula, Nacala Porto, Pemba and Montepuez, with a duration of five years, essentially aims to improve the housing conditions of the vulnerable, and basic infrastructure such as access roads, drainage, water and energy,\u201d Minister Mesquita explained.<\/p>\n

Over three days, the MOPHRH Coordinating Council will focus on the role of the General Inspectorate of Public Works and of the Mozambique Engineering Laboratory and the functionality of the Licensing Commission for Contractors and Civil Construction Consultants in guaranteeing the quality of public works, among other important aspects related to national and regional economic development.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our objective in these three days of work, to take stock of the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget and to assess, in the medium term, the degree of implementation of the strategic actions defined in the Government\u2019s Five Year Program 2020-2024, for the sector of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources. To this end, we will analyse and discuss our performance in all aspects, namely roads and bridges, water supply and sanitation, water resources and housing,\u201d Minister Mesquita detailed.<\/p>\n

In turn, the governor of Nampula province, Manuel Alberto, said he believed that the meeting would serve as a motivation for the materialisation of the vision of increasingly improving the transitability of roads in the province, having launched the challenge of paving the roads or strategic sections of the province, with the spotlight on Nacala-\u00e0-Velha \u2013 Memba-Er\u00e1ti; Rapale\u2013Mecuburi-Muite; Namethyl-Angoche; Namethyl-Moma; Nampula-Li\u00fapo-Mogincual; Moma-Ivate-Larde; Monapo\u2013Li\u00fapo-Angoche, and the provision of more water and improved sanitation, with a view to improving the population\u2019s living conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the expectation of the more than 6.4 million inhabitants of Nampula province that recommendations will come from this VIII Coordinating Council that will help the province to overcome challenges to expanding the supply of water and improving sanitation. Of the 23 districts, 12 have an average coverage rate of only 50 percent. We are committed to improving the management of water supply systems and building social and economic infrastructure which is resilient to climate change,\u201d Governor Rodrigues concluded.<\/p>\n
