{"id":23358,"date":"2022-07-22T13:27:19","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T13:27:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/nigeria-women-boycott-training-in-bonus-row"},"modified":"2022-07-22T13:48:33","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T13:48:33","slug":"nigeria-women-boycott-training-in-bonus-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/nigeria-women-boycott-training-in-bonus-row","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria women boycott training in bonus row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Nigeria\u2019s players are in dispute with the country\u2019s football federation (NFF) ahead of their third-place play-off at the Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).<\/p>\n<p>None of the Super Falcons players has received their allocated allowances or bonus of over $10,000 (Sh1.1m) for the wins over Botswana, Burundi and Cameroon.<\/p>\n<p>The players boycotted training on Wednesday evening, prompting the NFF to act swiftly in order to prevent another strike before the match against Zambia on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe players have refused to leave their hotel in Casablanca over unpaid bonuses,\u201d a top NFF official told BBC Sport Africa. \u201cThere is also an issue over the unpaid first five days of camp, which the players expected in their bank accounts but has not arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The financially-stricken NFF, which receives its funding from the Nigerian government, has made a $1,000 (Sh118,588) payment to each player of the nine-time African champions to cover their 10 days\u2019 allowance.<\/p>\n<p>NFF president Amaju Pinnick told BBC Sport Africa on Wednesday that his organisation is \u201cdealing with the issue\u201d \u2014 but funds need to come from the country\u2019s Sports Ministry before any payment can be made.<\/p>\n<p>A special adviser to the minister of sports Sunday Dare said the \u201cissues are being resolved\u201d and the team has received verbal assurances that they will be paid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issues are being resolved and the NFF has assured the team they will get all that is due them,\u201d Toyin Ibitoye said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sports ministry has presented NFF\u2019s request for financial intervention to the relevant quarters and it is receiving urgent attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe processes for receiving funds from the government take time and the team now understands this. Both the ministry and NFF are working to ensure things move at a faster pace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is not the first time players of Africa\u2019s most successful women\u2019s side have protested over unpaid bonuses. Beaten by hosts Morocco in a dramatic semi-final on Monday, the Super Falcons \u2014 champions last time out \u2014 are understood to be concerned they will not be paid after the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s women\u2019s team \u2014 the Super Falcons \u2014 have twice been involved in sit-in protests in hotels at previous Wafcons.<\/p>\n<p>The first came in South Africa in 2004 after the West Africans won the title, with another in 2016 in Abuja after claiming their eighth continental crown in Cameroon.<\/p>\n<p>At the 2019 Women\u2019s World Cup in France, the players staged another sit-in protest over unpaid salaries and bonuses after their Round of 16 elimination by Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Each Super Falcons player in Morocco is entitled to a $100 (Sh11,858) daily allowance, $3,000 (Sh 355,762) for each group stage win and $1,500 (Sh177,881) for a draw.<\/p>\n<p>Following a recent payment review, the players can also expect $5,000 (Sh592,937) for their win in the quarter-final, but they will miss out on proposed payments of $7,000 (Sh 830,106) and $10,000 (Sh1,185,866) for victories in the semi-final and final respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\">Mozambique<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
