Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican incorporated company Mutamba Mineral Sands is due to start heavy sands exploitation in Jangamo and Inharrime, Inhambane province, by the end of this year, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Carlos Zacarias said during a visit to the enterprise a few days ago.<\/p>\n

Research into the heavy sands in Jangamo and Inharrime started 13 years ago. The heavy sands exploitation concession granted by the government covers an area of 25,000 hectares, where the existence of 4.4 billion tons of ore has been proven.<\/p>\n

The Mutamba Mineral Sands project represents an investment valued at US$10 million, and has an installed processing capacity of 120 tonnes per hour.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a visit to monitor the current stage of implementation, Minister Zacarias saw that the most significant phases of the project had already been carried out, including a survey which confirmed the occurrence of ilmenite, rutile and zircon at the site.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to our legislation, any enterprise needs to have the proper concession and environmental licence. For the next phase, investors have already started the process of obtaining the environmental licence, one of the matters that will condition the start of production,\u201d the minister said<\/p>\n

Mutamba Mineral Sands is currently carrying out experimental production and evaluating the results, while the start of full-scale operations is expected by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Representing the company, Monteiro Suege explained that work is currently underway to acquire and assemble the plant needed for the start of production.<\/p>\n

Several other pre-production activities are planned, especially the rehabilitation of the main camp facilities, the access road to the camp and the processing plant.<\/p>\n
