Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique wants to apply for the Libombos transfrontier conservation area (TFCA-Libombos) in the south of Maputo province, to be a world heritage site, announced a source from the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC).<\/p>\n

The initiative will contribute to the development of the marine conservation area, as well as improving research and monitoring activities of existing species and their landscapes, according to Lu\u00eds Buchir, administrator of the Maputo environmental protection area, cited on Monday by Radio Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The official made the announcement in Kigali, capital of Rwanda, during the Africa Protected Areas Congress (APAC) , which took place between 18 and 23 July.<\/p>\n

The TFCA-Libombos is shared by Mozambique, South Africa and Eswatini, countries that are committed to an integrated management of resources and to promoting tourism in the region, Buchir said.<\/p>\n

The source also said that the initiative would strengthen cooperation between the three countries in the fight against illegal activities in the region.<\/p>\n

Conservation areas cover 25 percent of Mozambique, including 14 public parks and reserves under state management and 54 private conservation areas.<\/p>\n
