Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican Government intends to invest 30 million meticais (around 470,000 US dollars) to expand the project of piping cooking gas in several neighborhoods of Maputo City.<\/p>\n

The gas will be piped to homes in the Coop, Munhuana and 25th June neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

Currently work is under way so that, by the end of the year, at least 200 families will have the gas piped into their homes, which will save time and money in the acquisition of this energy source.<\/p>\n

This is an initiative of the government, in partnership with the National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH) and Kogas of South Korea, which aims to stimulate the use of gas produced in the country.<\/p>\n

The project began in the districts of Vilankulo and Inhassoro, in the southern province of Inhambane, in 2018, where it covered more than 3,000 families.<\/p>\n

In the same year, another 100 families, living in Aeroporto neighborhood in Maputo, were also covered.<\/p>\n

The natural gas is taken from the pipeline that runs from the Pande and Temane gas fields, in Inhambane, to Secunda, in South Africa.<\/p>\n

According to the Maputo daily \u201cNot\u00edcias\u201d, quoting the National Director of Hydrocarbons and Fuels in the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mois\u00e9s Paulino, shortage of money has been one of the major challenges facing the Government in the mass distribution of gas.<\/p>\n

He also said that, despite the constraints, the Government intends to have half of the neighborhoods of the country\u2019s capital using piped gas by 2030.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, under the conditions that the world is in, in fuel and energy issues and the costs, the piping of natural gas to homes is an alternative favoured by the Government, since Mozambique produces the resource. We want people to join the initiative, because the service is safe\u201d, Paulino said.<\/p>\n

For his part, the director of ENH, Muss\u00e1 Tembe, pointed out that since the implementation of the project in the Aeroporto \u201cA\u201d neighborhood of Maputo, there have never been problems with the gas supply.<\/p>\n
