Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The government announced in Maputo yesterday that offenders involved in road accidents resulting in death or caused by serious misconduct would be arrested immediately, Not\u00edcias reports.<\/p>\n

This is one of several extraordinary measures announced in the context of preventing and combating road accidents in the country.<\/p>\n

Also subject to immediate arrest will be drivers caught overtaking irregularly, driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km\/h, and other offences under the Highway Code currently in force.<\/p>\n

Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) spokesman Ambr\u00f3sio Sitoe told the press that the more forceful stance in the application of penalties is provided for in the legislation.<\/p>\n

The growing number of road accidents in the country are the reason for the strict enforcement of traffic rules as from now, he explained.<\/p>\n
