Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s First Lady, Isaura Nyusi, has called for greater involvement of women in the prevention and mitigation of problems caused by climate change.
\nIsaura Nyusi made this appeal on Sunday, in Maputo, during celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Pan-African Women\u2019s Day, taking place under the slogan \u201cGender Equality in the Context of Climate Change.\u201d
\n\u201cOn this day of celebration, our call is for the prevention of risks and mitigation of the effects of climate change through preservation of the environment and providing solidarity to victims of climate events\u201d, the First Lady said.
\nShe explained that the slogan aims to elevate the role of women and give visibility to the historical legacy and contribution of African women, in building a peaceful society of solidarity, ethics and respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens.
\nIsaura Nyusi pointed out challenges that must be overcome so that the emancipation and active participation of women is consolidated and continuously elevated by all generations, including \u201cthe continuous promotion of equal rights and opportunities between men and women, elevating the participation of women in the various spheres of society, eliminating violence and discrimination, creating conditions for women to enjoy the same rights and opportunities, and preventing diseases that affect the world, our continent and the country\u201d.
\nIsaura Nyusi welcomed the fact that women have reached gender parity in the Mozambican government, but above all, for the policies of empowerment of women, which endow them with skills to contribute to the development processes of the country.
\nThe 60th anniversary of the Pan-African women\u2019s organization, she says, represents a growing participation of women in the various areas of social, economic, cultural and political development of the continent.
\n\u201cWith great pride, we find on the continent, women who, by their own merit, competence and professionalism, are giving their best for the welfare of Africa, performing tasks in the sectors of health, education, research, justice, culture, sports, and in the business sector, among other areas\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n
