Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Two people died in an attack by islamist terrorists on Sunday afternoon on a stretch of the N380 highway between the villages of Nova Zambezia and Nova Vida, in Macomia district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report in Tuesday\u2019s issue of the independent newssheet \u201cMediafax\u201d.<\/p>\n

The attack targeted a convoy of vehicles making the journey between the towns of Mueda and Macomia. The convoy did not have a military escort. After it had passed through the Nova Zambezia village, and as it was approaching Nova Vida, it came under fire.<\/p>\n

The driver of one of the vehicles was hit, but managed to drive on, at high speed. In the Nova Vida village, this vehicle ran over and killed an elderly woman. The driver later died of his injuries. Three other people were injured in the ambush.<\/p>\n

The driver who died worked for a fuel distribution company, and he had been driving a tanker truck with fuel to meet Macomia\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n

After the attack members of the Mozambican defence and security forces appeared, but too late to catch the terrorist group.<\/p>\n

Also on Sunday, it was reported that terrorists murdered three people working on fields in Nova Zambezia and Nkoe villages. The proximity of these murders to the ambush leads to suspicions that they were the work of the same group.<\/p>\n
