Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Russian Federation Council (Senate) has donated, through the Mozambican parliament, several types of material to support communities affected by terrorism in Cabo Delgado, with emphasis on children.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf the gifts, we look with particular affection at those for children and for our fellow citizens, in general, victims of terrorism,\u2019 said the first vice president of the Mozambican parliament, Helder Injojojo, quoted by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM).<\/p>\n

The support, consisting of school and sports materials in unspecified quantities, will be channelled, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Action, to children from communities displaced as a result of the incursions of armed rebels that have terrorized the province of Cabo Delgado, in the north of the African country since 2017.<\/p>\n

According to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there are about 800,000 internally displaced persons due to the conflict, and about 4,000 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project.<\/p>\n

The donation results from a promise made by the Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia., Valentina Matviyenko, who made a visit to Mozambique in late May.<\/p>\n

At the time, Valentina Matviyenko, the third Russian state figure, called Mozambique a \u201creliable partner,\u201d recalling Russia\u2019s support in \u201call the stages\u201d the African country has gone through.<\/p>\n

During the visit, Valentina Matviyenko and Esperan\u00e7a Bias, president of the Mozambican Parliament, signed an agreement that aims to strengthen cooperation between the two parliaments, focusing on exchanging experiences and sharing information.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Mozambique was among the countries that abstained on two resolutions that were voted on at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN): one condemned Russia for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine due to the war and the other suspended Moscow from the Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n
