Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The government of Niassa province says it will carry on banning the import of live chicken from neighbouring Malawi, as a safeguard for animal and public health.<\/p>\n

The decision was reiterated this Thursday in Lichinga, by the provincial director of Agriculture and Fisheries in Niassa, Mijoia J\u00falio Raimundo Caetano.<\/p>\n

Caetano was speaking at a meeting with operators in the chicken production and marketing chain.<\/p>\n

The meeting was aimed at establishing mechanisms for harmonising the price of live chicken in the local market, which currently varies between 300 and 400 meticais.<\/p>\n

Poultry farmers used the occasion to explain that the high cost of raw material was dictating the current price of live chicken in the province.<\/p>\n
