Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The results of the natural gas research in the B\u00fazi block, in central Mozambique, will be known within two years, said the president of the National Petroleum Institute, Naz\u00e1rio Bangalane, quoted by the press today.<\/p>\n

Drilling, led by the company Buzi Hydrocarbons, started in 2019, but was interrupted in 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the company Buzi Hydrocarbons has successfully completed the drilling of two exploration wells, which culminated in the discovery of natural gas in the Grudja Superior and Grudja Inferior formations, assessment work has begun that may require the acquisition of seismic data. Additional 2D\/3D and opening of other holes for further evaluations\u201d, explained Naz\u00e1rio Bangalane, quoted by Mozambican daily newspaper Not\u00edcias.<\/p>\n

The opening of each of the research holes was estimated at 13.2 million euros, according to INP data advanced in 2020.<\/p>\n

The Indonesian company Buzi Hydrocarbons holds 75% of the rights to the B\u00fazi block and the Mozambican government 25%, through Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).<\/p>\n

The intention to invest in gas research in B\u00fazi, whose records of possible occurrence date back to 1962, was announced in 2015 and, at the time, the plan was to drill about 15,225 feet deep in wells BD1 and BD2, both inside the Buzi gas field.<\/p>\n

The Indonesian company announced the start of drilling in 2019, at which time the only commercial exploitation of natural gas in the vicinity of that point was being carried out by the South African group Sasol.<\/p>\n
