Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>A 15-seat semi-collective passenger transport (\u2018chapa\u2019) was stopped by police in Manhi\u00e7a district, Maputo province, on Saturday with 37 passengers on board.<\/p>\n

The 30-kilometre trip between 3 de Fevereiro to Ilha Josina Machel would have gone normally had the Traffic Police (PT) not stopped the mini-bus.<\/p>\n

The PT agent involved was surprised by the number of passengers on board and, since she was responsible for raising awareness among passengers and reminding them of the recent accident in Manhi\u00e7a, asked: \u201cYou recall that there was an accident at the Xinavane intersection; why do you accept this?\u201d<\/p>\n

The driver was fined, spokesman for the Traffic Police in Maputo Province Rodrigues Tchabana said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a driver, he has a problem with his driving license \u2013 he does not have a licence to carry out that activity. He must have a driving licence in the category of public services, but he doesn\u2019t and was therefore fined for lack of the category and for overcrowding [his mini-bus],\u201d Tchabana reported.<\/p>\n

Tchabana called on the public to report incidents like this. \u201cWe want to appeal to everyone to denounce this practice in semi-collective passenger transport,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
