Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The head of Mozambique\u2019s Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), non-governmental organisation, found two AK47 bullets, one of them bearing his name, in the backyard of his residence, the activist himself told Lusa on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cSurveillance cameras show that the bullets were thrown into my residence by two men, who then ran off,\u201d the CDD director, Adriano Nuvunga, told Lusa, recalling that his house is located a few meters from a police station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was around five a. m. on Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the activist, the bullets were wrapped in paper and, although the content of the messages was mostly unclear, one of them definitely read \u201cBeware, Nuvunga\u201d.<\/p>\n

He described this as \u201ca veiled threat that aims to limit our work, a work that aims precisely to extend access to justice so that people who are victims of corruption and impunity can have a minimum of dignity\u201d but said that \u201cwith all these threats, what I can say is that the fight continues.<\/p>\n

Contacted by Lusa, Mozambique\u2019s National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) confirmed that it had received a complaint about the incident, adding that operations were ongoing to identify the people who left the bullets in Nvunga\u2019s yard.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received the denunciation on Monday and we are already working on the matter,\u201d Sernic spokesman Hilario Lole stressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is premature to put forward any hypothesis of what will have really happened, but the authorities are working to discover the truth.<\/p>\n

Nuvunga, one of the most vocal and critical voices in Mozambique\u2019s civil society, is director of the CDD and a former head of the Centre for Public Integrity (CIP), as well as being a professor of political science at the Eduardo Mondlane University, the country\u2019s oldest higher education institution.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Nuvunga received a bomb threat at his home, in a case in which Amnesty International pressed for an investigation, whose outcome to date is not known.<\/p>\n
