Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Traffic accidents constitute the main cause of demand for Physiological Rehabilitation Services (SRF) in Mozambican health units.<\/p>\n

The information was advanced on Monday, in Maputo, by Deputy Health Minister, F\u00e1rida Urci, at the opening of a Scientific Conference of the Higher Institute of Health Sciences (ISCISA), under the theme \u201cRehabilitation, Fundamental Strategy for Sustainable Health\u201d<\/p>\n

The three day event aims to mobilize civil society to break the barriers of social segregation, related to people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have created three undergraduate courses in Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. The courses taught by ISCISA correspond to the current challenges characterized by the high number of road accidents\u201d, Urci said.<\/p>\n

These courses, she added, respond to the current challenges of a major increase in cases of psychomotor alterations requiring assistance and accompaniment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was with immense satisfaction that we received the great news of ISCISA\u2019s availability to train surgical technicians to guarantee the presidential initiative of One District, one Hospital\u201d, she said, stressing that \u201cyou can always count on the public hospitals and their professionals, working to improve the quality of care for our patients and users.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, the director general of ISCISA, Alexandre Manguele, said that the conference is an opportunity to show the value that the courses taught at the institution represent for society.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage our health professionals, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists for their specialization, because they are a specific added value in health units, he declared.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation sector has already trained 84 senior technicians in physical therapy, 72 in occupational therapy, and 72 in speech therapy, almost all of whom have been absorbed by the National Health System.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State for Maputo City, Vicente Joaquim, who also attended the event, said \u201cthe meeting constitutes a unique opportunity for the promotion of health research, as well as for the dissemination of research results, which will allow decisions on using scientific evidence\u201d.<\/p>\n
