Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Global cargo handling in the Mozambican rail and port system stood at 67 million tons in 2021, against 57.6 million tons the previous year, an increase of 9.4 million tons, according to the Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM) Report and Accounts for the 2021 financial year.<\/p>\n

The report begins by underlining that the 2021 financial year, like 2020, began with a trend of economic contraction associated with the effects of Covid-19, characterised internally by the intensification of containment measures during the first quarter and motivated by the outbreak of the third Covid wave in June.<\/p>\n

Even so, CFM registered growth in the handling of rail-port cargo in general.<\/p>\n

Disaggregating the data, in the Mozambican rail system in particular, the company accounts for about 18.9 million net tons transported from January to December, 2021, against about 16.8 million tons in 2020, representing growth of 13% and an execution level of 75% in relation to targets.<\/p>\n

During the period under analysis, around 10.6 million net tons were transported on railways operated by CFM itself, against 10.5 million tons transported in the same period of 2020, which corresponds to 1% growth and an achievement of 85% in relation to that planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of passenger transport, in the period under analysis, 3.1 million passengers were transported against 3.5 million registered in the same previous period, which corresponds to a reduction of 1<\/p>\n
