Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>About 150 displaced people from Cabo Delgado, now sheltering in the city of Chimoio, Manica province, are in difficult circumstances.<\/p>\n

In addition to food products to address the lack of food in the region, they are asking the local government for housing, land for agricultural production and employment opportunities, in order to exit the poverty in which they find themselves mired.<\/p>\n

One of the displaced, Sim\u00e3o Pedro, thanked authorities in the central province of Manica, which had been providing support in various ways, but not in adequate quantities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, displaced from Cabo Delgado, lack products such as flour, oil, salt, soap and sugar, to cover the basic needs of households. We have other needs, such as the lack of dishes and blankets. We ask [the government] for land to farm and produce our own food products, and also for job opportunities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Governor acknowledges weaknesses<\/b><\/p>\n

Those displaced from six regions of Cabo Delgado \u2013 Muidumbe, Quissanga, Palma, Moc\u00edmboa da Praia, Nangade and Macomia \u2013 abandoned everything they had, including the rooves over their heads, because of terrorist activity.<\/p>\n

Urged to comment on the concerns expressed by the displaced, Governor of Manica Francisca Tom\u00e1s acknowledged that the government did not have the capacity to fully meet their needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn relation to blankets, we are bringing some in response to your request, and other products are arriving, as far as possible. We will be able to distribute them throughout Chimoio district,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn relation to employment, the municipal council has been able to identify some projects which we can place in the area as possible means of livelihood. This is a concern for all young people, not just yours alone, and we recognize that you want to settle here in Manica,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

The official said that efforts were underway to identify locations in three districts \u2013 Macate, Gondola and Vanduzi \u2013 where the displaced would be able to practice agriculture and other activities they deem relevant.<\/p>\n

Francisca Tom\u00e1s also promised to provide the displaced families agricultural inputs in order to boost productivity.<\/p>\n
