Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Company Porto e Caminhos de Ferro de Mo\u00e7ambique (CFM) announced on Thursday that the Port of Quelimane, in Zamb\u00e9zia province, can now accommodate vessels with a capacity of up to 10,000 gross metric tons.<\/p>\n

To make the port more competitive, the CFM has invested around US$3 million in dredging operations this year, reaching a depth of between four to five metres in the port itself and six to seven metres in the access channel.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CFM, Miguel Matabel, who was speaking to the region\u2019s business community about the existing potential in the Port of Quelimane.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the conference to promote the port, Miguel Matabel explained that the dredging strategy aimed to increase revenue capture and provide opportunities for hinterland countries to use the port for their imports.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Governor of Zamb\u00e9zia, Pior Matos, invited national and foreign businesspeople to use the Port of Quelimane in order to relaunch economic growth and facilitate anchor projects in the Mocuba Special Economic Zone.<\/p>\n
