Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Wednesday reported a further 23 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and only three recoveries.<\/p>\n

According to a Wednesday press release from the Ministry of Health, 12 of the new cases were women and 11 were men. They ranged in age from two to 85 years old.<\/p>\n

Eight of the new cases were from Tete, four from Maputo city, two from Cabo Delgado and two from Gaza. There were also three cases from Niassa, three from Nampula, and one from Zambezia. No positive cases were reported from the other four provinces.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,377,346 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 713 of them in the previous 24 hours. 690 of these tests yielded negative results, and the 23 who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 229,932.<\/p>\n

The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the coronavirus) rose from 2.9 per cent on Tuesday to 3.23 per cent.<\/p>\n

Four Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Wednesday, two of them in Niassa, one in Gaza and one in Maputo. Three new cases were admitted, all of them in Niassa. The number of patients undergoing medical care in the Covid-19 wards fell slightly from 13 on Tuesday to 12 on Wednesday. Six of these patients were in Niassa, three in Maputo, two in Gaza and one in Zambezia. Three of these patients were in intensive care, receiving supplementary oxygen.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release reported no further deaths from Covid-19 on Wednesday. The total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 2,119.<\/p>\n

Of the three recoveries reported on Wednesday, two were from Maputo province and one from Zambezia. The total number of recoveries now stands at 227,503, which is 98.94 per cent of all Covid-19 cases ever diagnosed in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 186 on Tuesday to 206 on Wednesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Zambezia, 47; Niassa, 28; Tete, 25; Sofala, 25; Maputo city, 20; Cabo Delgado, 15; Nampula, 15; Gaza, 15; Inhambane, 12; Manica, two; and Maputo province, two.<\/p>\n

The Ministry press release also reported that a further 3,656 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Wednesday. The total number fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,654,899, which is 96.4 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above<\/p>\n
