Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s Public Prosecutor, through the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC), has filed an indictment against the president of the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique (IACM), Joao de Abreu, for alleged \u201cmismanagement\u201d in the institution.<\/p>\n

In the case currently before the Maputo judicial court, Abreu and the head of the Management and Procurement Executive Unit of the IACM, C\u00e9sar Maur\u00edcio, are accused of abuse of office or role, violation of management rules, payment of undue remuneration and economic participation in business.<\/p>\n

According to the indictment, cited today by the weekly Savana, the two managers are alleged to have authorised direct awards to different companies for providing services and materials in 2019, violating the requirements required by law.<\/p>\n

In statements released on Friday by the weekly newspaper, the president of the IACM said he had a \u201cclear conscience,\u201d considering that the accusation brought by the Public Prosecutor was based on anonymous complaints from employees with hidden purposes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have done nothing unusual, and so I fear nothing. But it is painful that, after so many years of exemplary service to the state, in the final stretch of my career, people come and try to lynch us for reasons we do not know. It is sad\u201d, he declared.<\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o de Abreu has presided over the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique since 2013.<\/p>\n

The president of the IACM is also publicly known as Commander Abreu and is one of the best-known aviation pilots in Mozambique for his long career with state-owned airline Linhas A\u00e9reas de Mo\u00e7ambique (LAM).<\/p>\n

In addition to Jo\u00e3o de Abreu and C\u00e9sar Maur\u00edcio, the Public Prosecutor listed as defendants Sara Ginabay Mussa, former director of Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology at the IACM, Regina Esperan\u00e7a, former head of the Department of Finance and Property of the IACM, Edith Samuel, former head of Human Resources, and S\u00e9rgio Micael, former head of the Department of Finance and Property.<\/p>\n
