Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican health authorities on Wednesday reported a further nine new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and 15 recoveries. According to a Wednesday press release, issued by the Ministry of Health, six of the new cases were men and three were women.<\/p>\n

They were between 10 and 83 years old. The cases were scattered across the country. Three were from Gaza, and there was one each from Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete, Manica, Inhambane and Maputo city. No cases were reported from the other four provinces.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,380,585 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 553 of them in the previous 24 hours. 544 of these tests yielded negative results, and the nine who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 230,018.<\/p>\n

The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the coronavirus) fell 1.92 per cent on Tuesday to 1.63 per cent on Wednesday. No Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Wednesday, but two new cases were admitted, both in Maputo city.<\/p>\n

The number of patients undergoing medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from nine on Tuesday to 11 on Wednesday, four of whom were in intensive care and receiving supplementary oxygen.<\/p>\n

The Ministry release reported no further deaths from Covid-19 on Wednesday. The total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique thus remained 2,119. The 15 recoveries reported were all from Gaza.<\/p>\n

The total number of recoveries now stands at 227,612, which is 98.95 per cent of all Covid-19 cases ever diagnosed in Mozambique. The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 189 on Tuesday to 183 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Maputo city, 44; Niassa, 31; Zambezia, 28; Cabo Delgado, 21; Nampula, 19; Sofala, 15; Gaza, 12; Tete, seven; Manica, four; Inhambane, one; and Maputo province, one.<\/p>\n

The Ministry press release also reported that a further 3,614 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Wednesday. The total number fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,668,519, which is 96.4 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.<\/p>\n
