Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Demobilised soldiers from Mozambique\u2019s main opposition party, Renamo, say they know nothing about any breakaway \u201cdemocratic Renamo\u201d.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month Vitano Singano a former head of the Renamo Youth League announced that he was at the head of a group of dissidents, who intended to remove the current Renamo leadership, under Ossufo Momade, and form a coalition of parties that can take power from the ruling Frelimo Party.<\/p>\n

But, according to a report on the independent television station, STV, a group of about 450 demobilised Renamo guerrillas, meeting in Beira, say they have nothing to do with the new party.<\/p>\n

\u201cSingano has nothing to do with us\u201d, said one of the demobilised, Sebastiao Mussindo.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we are demanding, as demobilised soldiers, is that Singano should not use the Renamo symbol, and should not speak in the name of Renamo.<\/p>\n

If he wants to set up a party, let him form his own party, which should not include the name of Renamo or the Renamo demobilised\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the group, those behind the creation of \u201cDemocratic Renamo\u201d are trying to demobilize the real Renamo, and endanger democracy in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese individuals want to do away with democracy in this country\u201d, accused another former guerrilla Benicio Chire.<\/p>\n

Singano has boasted that he has a great deal of support within Renamo and intends to formalize \u201cDemocratic Renamo\u201d, at the Ministry of Justice with the signatures of more than 10,000 supporters.<\/p>\n

But if he attempts to use Renamo symbols, or the names of Renamo\u2019s first two Presidents, Andre Matsangaissa and Afonso Dhlakama, the real Renamo has promised legal action to stop him.<\/p>\n
