Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Entering and leaving the country with cash, in an amount exceeding 10 thousand Meticais or 10 thousand US dollars or the equivalent in foreign currency, is subject to the declaration of possession..<\/p>\n

The warning from the Bank of Mozambique, made public through a note issued last Thursday<\/b>, determines, under the terms of Law no. 11\/2009 of March 11 \u2013 Foreign Exchange Law: \u201cThe physical entry and exit of foreign banknotes and coins in the national territory, in an amount greater than the equivalent to USD 10,000.00 (ten thousand US dollars), must be declared and the bearer must present the document attesting legitimate possession\u201d<\/p>\n

For national currency, the note warns: \u201cThe physical entry and exit of national banknotes and coins, in amounts greater than 10,000.00 MT (ten thousand Meticais), must be declared\u201d.<\/p>\n

In addition to monetary amounts, the rules and procedures cover precious metals and ores: \u201cIn the import and export of gold (in bar, ingot or other unworked form), silver, platinum and other precious metals and minerals, the holder must present, in addition to the import documents, the respective authorization bulletin issued by the Bank of Mozambique\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the central bank\u2019s note, in order to declare the abovementioned amounts of money, the holder of notes and coins must fill in the form in duplicate with the Customs authorities, and must keep the duplicate.<\/p>\n

The Bank of Mozambique further recommends the use of alternative means of payment, such as bank cards and telegraphic transfers, to avoid the risk of theft.<\/p>\n
