Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>President Filipe Nyusi on Friday warned young people not to be lured with promises of work by armed groups, saying that \u201cmany people deceived by terrorists are missing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet them not deceive you, because those who have been deceived are missing, and we don\u2019t know where they are,\u201d Nyusi stressed.<\/p>\n

Mozambique\u2019s head of state was speaking at a meeting, after inaugurating the building of the Judicial Court of Vand\u00fazi District, in Manica province, central Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Young people, he said, should take advantage of job opportunities that are being created in various sectors of the economy, particularly agriculture and industrial units.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is work in the \u2018machambas\u2019 [agricultural fields and small factories]\u201d that are coming on stream, he said.<\/p>\n

Filipe Nyusi called on people to remain \u201cvigilant\u201d to attempts at enticement by armed groups, praising the resistance of Manica\u2019s communities to attempts at mobilisation by insurgents.<\/p>\n

The President said on Thursday that the country should prevent the expansion of armed groups to more provinces, noting that \u201cterrorism has no borders, no barracks\u201d.<\/p>\n

Earlier, on Wednesday, the head of state said that at least six people had been killed since Saturday in a new wave of armed attacks in northern Mozambique and fighting is ongoing.<\/p>\n

\u201cSix citizens have been beheaded, three kidnapped, and dozens of houses have been set on fire,\u201d Nyusi said in the city of Xai-Xai during a speech alluding to Victory Day.<\/p>\n

Some points in the extreme north of Nampula province, along with Cabo Delgado, are the scene of instability caused by the presence of armed groups.<\/p>\n

Cabo Delgado province is rich in natural gas but has been terrorised since 2017 by armed violence, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.<\/p>\n

The insurgency has led to a military response since a year ago by forces from Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), liberating districts near gas projects but leading to a new wave of attacks in other areas closer to Pemba, the provincial capital.<\/p>\n

There are about 800,000 internally displaced people due to the conflict, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and about 4,000 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project.<\/p>\n
