Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Ossufo Momade leader of Renamo, Mozambique\u2019s main opposition party, has sacked Secretary-general Andr\u00e9 Magibire.<\/p>\n

No reasons have been put forward to explain Magibire\u2019s dismissal.<\/p>\n

Former private secretary of the late Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, and member of the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican parliament, was dismissed on 5 September, but was only formally announced on Friday.<\/p>\n

A copy of the press release sent to AIM only states that \u201cthe present order shall take immediate effect\u201d.<\/p>\n

Asked about Magibire dismissal, a source from Renamo said to AIM that there was nothing wrong, as it is a normal process to revive party\u2019s structures.<\/p>\n

As for the new replacement, the source said the candidate is yet to be named.<\/p>\n

The same source explained that according to Renamo\u2019s statutes Momad has the powers to put forward a new candidate, who will have to be ratified by Renamo\u2019s National Council. In the meantime, it is too premature to advance any names.<\/p>\n

Magibire had been serving as Renamo secretary general since April 2019 and replaced Manuel Bissopo, who was dismissed in January of the same year, by Ossufo Momade.<\/p>\n
