Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Cahora-Bassa Hydroelectric Power Plant (HCB) in Tete plans to almost triple water discharges from 1,600 to 3,600 cubic metres per second from the 1st of October, R\u00e1dio Mo\u00e7ambique reports.<\/p>\n

According to the HCB, the discharges are intended to control water levels in the dam, safeguard the safety of the structure and free up capacity in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.<\/p>\n

HCB Director of Water Resources and Environment Rosaque Guale observes that water levels currently stand at 95.22 percent of the reservoir\u2019s full storage capacity.<\/p>\n

Water resources management authorities expect the operation to increase water levels in the main course of the Zambezi River, affecting the districts of Tambara in Manica province, Moatize, Doa and Mutarara in Tete, Chemba, Caia and Marromeu in Sofala, and Mopeia, Luabo and Chinde in Zamb\u00e9zia provinces.<\/p>\n

As a consequence, riverine communities are advised to leave the banks of the Zambezi River, a Not\u00edcias reports adds.<\/p>\n
