Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Maria Majimeja on Tuesday (13) became the fourth woman to enter the administration of the Bank of Mozambique, an institution that has been without a deputy governor for nine months.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, swore in Maria Esperan\u00e7a Mateus Majimeja as Administrator of the Monetary Stability Department at the Bank of Mozambique, replacing Felisberto Dinis Navalha, whose term, started in 2017, has ended.<\/p>\n

Among the challenges facing this experienced central bank official are: \u201cThe continuous improvement of monetary policy instruments, taking into account the dynamics at national and international level; accelerating digital transformation and mitigating cyber risks in order to make our operations more effective, efficient and resilient; boosting the process of digitising the economy, in particular payment systems, with a view to reducing transaction costs and improving their efficiency,\u201d Maleiane detailed.<\/p>\n

Maleiane said that Majimeja\u2019s mission was also to \u201cdelineate strategies for the continuous promotion of banking in the economy and increase levels of financial inclusion in the country in order to promote greater access to financial services for all segments of the population; the improvement of supervisory mechanisms to train and mitigate money laundering and terrorist financing; and stimulating the development of the capital market and mobilization of savings by the national banking sector\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Bank of Mozambique has had no deputy governor since Victor Gomes was dismissed by President Filipe Nyusi last January.<\/p>\n

The board of the central bank is headed by Governor Rog\u00e9rio Zandamela and includes Administrators Benedita Maria Guimino, Gertrudes Adolfo Macueve Tovela, Silvina de Abreu, Jamal Omar and the newly sworn-in Maria Esperan\u00e7a Mateus Majimeja.<\/p>\n
