Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Inspectorate of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) 20 days, starting Monday, 12 September, to complete work on the Vilankulo Arena, the venue set to host the African Beach Football Championship. If the country does not finish the arena, the CAF may assign the organisation of beach football on the continent to South Africa.<\/p>\n

A multidisciplinary team of CAF inspectors between Monday and Tuesday of this week (12,13-09) sought to verify the situation on the ground, and found work there currently 70% complete.<\/p>\n

According to Radio Mozambique, the main playing field, changing rooms and service areas have so far been completed.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday (13-09), CAF Director of Competitions Samson Adamo inspected the facilities for national teams, referees and officials.<\/p>\n

At this moment, the assembly of the stands remains to be concluded, as well as the construction of access areas for the athletes, the public and VIP guests.<\/p>\n

During the inspection, the team ordered that the goalposts be changed from the assembled metal ones to fibre posts.<\/p>\n

If the Organising Committee of the African Beach Soccer Championship does not complete the process, the African Football Confederation may transfer the organisation of the competition from Mozambique to South Africa.<\/p>\n

The ball is now in the hands of the Mozambican Football Federation, which must complete the project by 30 September.<\/p>\n

This was the third CAF visit, following previous ones in May and June. The CAF inspection mission is scheduled to carry out its final inspection on October 1.<\/p>\n

FMF president Feizal Sidat told Radio Mozambique that \u201cwe will make every effort to have the work finished by the deadline\u201d.<\/p>\n

Work in Vilankulo began on April 8, and the attention of the government, business people and sports agents is now focused on progress there, especially regarding the construction of the 1,200-seat arena, where teams will showcase their talent.<\/p>\n
