Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The chairman of the board of directors of the Mozambique Ports and Railways company (CFM), Miguel Matabel, is worried about the reported slowness of customs procedures at the Ressano Garcia border post in Moamba, Maputo province.<\/p>\n

Matabel says that the phenomenon forces the trains to remain at the border awaiting customs clearance for up to ten hours, making the corridor less productive than expected.<\/p>\n

Matabel was speaking in Ressano Garcia on Friday during the visit of a World Bank delegation to the facility. He added that the slowness of procedures there called into question the agreement to boost train movement reached between CFM and its South African counterpart.<\/p>\n

Another problem has to do with the time it takes for goods to be sealed.<\/p>\n

Minister of Transport and Communications Mateus Magala said on the occasion that the digitization of customs procedures could be among the solutions to the problem.<\/p>\n

Increasing productivity and reducing waiting times in the Maputo corridor was the focus of debate during the World Bank mission\u2019s visit to Ressano Garcia.<\/p>\n
