Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, is in London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on behalf of Filipe Nyusi, the current Mozambican head of state.<\/p>\n

It was Joaquim Chissano who, as president, ratified Mozambique\u2019s accession to the Commonwealth in 1995, and says the country\u2019s accession to that body was a positive move.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have increased our presence in the world and multiplied friendships,\u201d Chissano told R\u00e1dio Renascen\u00e7a, speaking from London.<\/p>\n

Four years later, in 1999, Elizabeth II visited Maputo for \u201ca one-day visit, but it was quite remarkable\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Queen \u201cshowed solidarity and affection for the Mozambican people, who received support from England, through the government of Margaret Thatcher,\u201d Chissano recalled.<\/p>\n

From the contact he had with the British monarch, the former president recalls best her \u201csimplicity\u201d.<\/p>\n

Chissano will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on behalf of Filipe Nyusi, the current president of Mozambique.<\/p>\n
