Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Ismaili Muslim community in Mozambique is to join the global Ismaili Civic program for three weekends, with volunteer actions ranging from blood collection to beach cleaning, it was announced on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective of our participation is to support efforts to reduce the impact and consequences of the [Covid-19] pandemic and promote environmental responsibility,\u201d in the face of climate change, the organisation says in a statement.<\/p>\n

Among the many socioeconomic consequences of Covid-19 restrictions on various activities, the pandemic reduced blood donations in Mozambique, shrinking already scarce reserves.<\/p>\n

The Ismaili Civic program started this Sunday in Mozambique with blood donor sessions that are expected to benefit 1,500 people in the cities of Maputo, Matola, Xai-Xai, Tete, Beira, Nampula, Quelimane, Chimoio and Pemba.<\/p>\n

On October 2nd, the Ismaili community will gather in various cities to donate clothes and meals and promote awareness sessions on breast cancer, with an overall target of 3,575 beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

The program ends the following weekend, on October 9th, with waste collection and beach cleaning activities in Maputo, Beira and Pemba.<\/p>\n

At the same time, there will be awareness actions regarding recycling, in line with a global strengthening of community initiatives driven by the Aga Khan Development Network and linked to \u201cthe issue of climate change, and its consequences and impacts on the population, especially the most vulnerable\u201d, the statement adds.<\/p>\n

The Ismaili Civic initiative runs continuously throughout the year, uniting globally at the end of each September in a concerted effort to raise awareness of volunteer service around the world.<\/p>\n
