Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>US oil company ExxonMobil has donated 25 tonnes of food products for those displaced due to armed violence in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, the company said in a statement today.<\/p>\n

The donation includes food items such as rice, beans and flour and is to be distributed in the centres for displaced people and the homes of host families on the outskirts of Pemba (the provincial capital), in coordination with Mozambique\u2019s National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD).<\/p>\n

\u201cExxonMobil has worked with civil society and government partners to support initiatives to respond to the primary needs of internally displaced communities in Cabo Delgado,\u201d said Jos Evens, ExxonMobil Mozambique\u2019s managing director, in a statement released to the media today.<\/p>\n

In addition to food, ExxonMobil also donated 100 bicycles to displaced families in some regions of that province to \u201csupport transport needs linked to travel to schools and for subsistence or income generation activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to monitor developments in the affected areas and extend our sympathies to the affected individuals, families and communities,\u201d said Jos Evens.<\/p>\n

ExxonMobil and Italy\u2019s Eni lead the consortium that will explore natural gas in Area 4 of the Rovuma basin, off the coast of Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n

Area 4 is operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a joint venture co-owned by ExxonMobil, Eni and CNPC (China), which holds a 70% stake in the concession contract.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese Galp, Kogas (South Korea) and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (Mozambique) each have a 10% stake.<\/p>\n

Armed groups have terrorised Cabo Delgado province since 2017, with some attacks claimed by the Islamic State group. According to the United Nations, there are more than 2,800 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project, and 732,000 displaced people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
