Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>During a visit to Niassa, the U.S. Department of Defense donated a Tuk Tuk ambulance and medical equipment and supplies to the village of Mussoma, located within the Niassa Special Reserve. This donation will significantly improve the reach and capacity of the local healthcare clinic to provide urgent medical services to the surrounding community.<\/p>\n

The Tuk Tuk ambulance will provide fast and agile access to remote locations within the Niassa Special Reserve buffer zone areas, reducing the time needed for local residents to receive emergency medical care, strengthening the partnership between the Niassa Special Reserve and its border communities, and saving lives.<\/p>\n

In Niassa, the U.S. Government is firmly committed to combating wildlife trafficking, a serious transnational crime that threatens security, economic prosperity, the rule of law, long-standing conservation efforts, and human health in Mozambique. The U.S. Embassy in Mozambique has provided $2 million to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to support efforts to counter wildlife trafficking in the Niassa Special Reserve. USAID recently launched the ECOSMART-2 project to counter transnational criminal networks and illegal logging, mining, and fishing in the reserve. The project also helps promote food security, protect water resources, support tourism, and create employment opportunities for the local community.<\/p>\n

Supporting community development and wildlife conservation are critical components of the broader U.S. Government assistance in Mozambique. In close collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, the U.S. Government provides more than $500 million in annual assistance to improve the quality of education and healthcare, promote economic prosperity, and support the overall development of the nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
