Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Manchester United have announced a net loss of \u00a3115.5m (Sh15.8bn) for the 2021-22 season even though revenues rose by 18 per cent to \u00a3583.2m (Sh79.7bn).<\/p>\n

Figures released incorporating the end of their financial year in June showed losses rose by \u00a323.3m (Sh3.1bn) compared to 2021.<\/p>\n

The club\u2019s debt also went up, from \u00a3419.5m (Sh57bn) in 2021 to \u00a3514.9m (Sh70bn) this year, an increase of more than 22 per cent.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur club\u2019s mission is to win football matches and entertain our fans,\u201d chief executive Richard Arnold said.<\/p>\n

As a result of the signings last summer of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane wages rose by 19.1 per cent, a rise of \u00a361.6m (Sh8.4bn) to \u00a3384.2m (Sh52.5bn).<\/p>\n

That figure is the highest in Premier League history, surpassing the previous total of \u00a3355m (Sh48.5bn) set by Manchester City.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur financial results for fiscal 2022 reflect a recovery from the pandemic, a full return of fans and new commercial partnerships offset by increased investment in the playing squad,\u201d said chief financial officer Cliff Baty.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur results have been adversely affected by the absence of a summer tour in July 2021, material exceptional and increased utility costs, and the impact of the weakening of sterling on our non-cash finance costs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pay-offs to managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, sacked in November 2021, and Ralf Rangnick, who did not take up a two-year consultancy role at the end of the season having initially assumed interim charge, and their associated coaching staff amounted to \u00a324.7m (Sh3.3bn).<\/p>\n
