Africa-Press<\/a> – Mozambique<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Next Thursday, 22 July, will see announced the ruling in the \u2018Embraer case\u2019, involving the former Minister of Transport and Communications, Paulo Zucula; the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Linhas A\u00e9reas de Mo\u00e7ambique (LAM), Jos\u00e9 Viegas; and the then executive of the South African petrochemical company SASOL, Mateus Zimba.<\/p>\n

The defendants in criminal proceeding number 52\/GCC\/2016-IP, being tried by the 8th Criminal Section of the Judicial Court of the City of Maputo, are accused of having accepted bribes in the process of purchasing two E-190 aircraft from the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, as well as of committing the crimes of economic participation in business and money laundering.<\/p>\n

The Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has called for the defendants to be sentenced to penalties and compensation in the amount of 73 million meticais, while the defence asks that all be acquitted on the grounds that the PRG\u2019s indictment is based on false and fallacious testimony, which has not been proven in court, by persons previously responsible for the Brazilian manufacturer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
