Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Filipe Nyusi, President of Frelimo the ruling party in Mozambique, on Friday admitted that the end of terrorism in the northern province of Cabo Delgado goes beyond military actions.<\/p>\n

However, he reaffirmed that Mozambican Security and Defence Forces, with the support of Rwandan troops and the SADC Military Mission to Mozambique (SAMIM), are in the pursuit of terrorists who, during their flight, continue to carry out sporadic deadly attacks in neighbouring provinces of Niassa and Nampula.<\/p>\n

\u2018Our Defence and Security Forces, with the support of friendly forces, have been closing in on the terrorists who, in their flight, are perpetrating macabre crimes against innocent people. We are aware that the solution for the end of terrorism goes beyond military action,\u2019 said Nyusi.<\/p>\n

Nyusi made these statements this Friday in the neighbouring town of Matola, southern province of Maputo, when delivering the opening speech of the 12th Frelimo Congress, a 5-day event currently under way under the theme \u201960 years of Frelimo Consolidating National Unity, Promoting Peace and Mozambique\u2019s Development\u2019.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that it was for this reason that recently the government approved the Northern Resilience and Integrated Development Program with a view to consolidating peace by promoting sustainable economic development of that region of the country.<\/p>\n

Nyusi, who is also Mozambican President, said that over the last five years, the country has witnessed several achievements with positive economic and social impact, in line with the government five-year plan. Despite a number of adverse factors, such as natural disasters, Covid-19 pandemic and terrorism, the country managed to make remarkable achievements.<\/p>\n

He listed the implementation of the industrialization program, Pemba-Lichinga Integrated Development Corridor Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ), constructions of grain silos, National Energy for All program, construction of roads, launch of SUSTENTA program, Water for Life program, among others that confirm government commitment with Mozambique\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

He asked Frelimo members and supporters to seize the opportunity to turn the 12th Frelimo Congress into a moment to take stock of the activities carried out over the last five-years, as well as a moment for strategic planning for a brighter future of next generations, preserving national unity, national sovereignty and achieve sustainable development.<\/p>\n

\u2018We should outline strategies on how to keep intact our sovereignty and consolidate the rule of law. Mozambique must continue to be a country of peace and focused on the consolidation of multi-party democracy,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Nyusi promised to continue to devote all his energies to inclusive development of the country, with focus on the most destitute people living in rural and remote areas. To this end, it\u2019s necessary to ensure that Frelimo wins the upcoming elections to make sure the country stays in the right course.<\/p>\n

President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, special guest to the congress stressed on her speech the long-standing ties of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation between both nations since the beginning of the struggle for national liberation against colonialism.<\/p>\n

She recalled the sacrifices made by Tanzania and its people for Mozambique to win the war against colonialism. She called on people from the region for this legacy to be passed on to young Mozambicans and Tanzanians for the sake of preserving history.<\/p>\n

\u2018Tanzania was always the place where Frelimo always sought its inspiration and support for liberation struggle,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

Samia Hassan also called for greater use and dissemination of the Swahili language as a way of preserving Africa\u2019s culture and history, with all the benefits that can come with it.<\/p>\n

About two thousand participants are attending the Congress, including 500 guests.<\/p>\n
