Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Today in Maputo, U.S. Ambassador to Mozambique Peter H. Vrooman joined Government of Mozambique officials to officially launch the nation-wide Covid-19 vaccination program for adolescents ages 12-17. In continued support of Mozambique\u2019s successful efforts to combat COVID-19, the United States Government donated 4.9 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to Mozambique. These vaccines will provide first dose coverage for 94% of this age group. This campaign makes Mozambique only the second country in all of Africa to vaccinate adolescents.<\/p>\n

The United States joins Mozambique healthcare workers, other international partners, and the private sector to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to every district in the country. U.S Government support includes significant investments into supply chain, system coordination, vaccine awareness campaigns, and access to reliable information about the COVID-19 vaccine at the community level.<\/p>\n

This campaign ceremony celebrates the huge strides the Mozambique government has made in providing high coverage of vaccines, one of the highest in Africa. \u201cThe United States is committed to doing all that we can to help Mozambique reach high vaccination rates among its entire population,\u201d Ambassador Vrooman said during the campaign launch. \u201cIt is our individual and collective responsibility to take action now so that our children and their children can have a better tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The United States is committed to leading the global COVID-19 response. In Mozambique, the U.S. Government has donated a total of 9.4 million COVID-19 vaccines since 2021. Worldwide, the United States has committed over $19 billion in health, humanitarian, and economic assistance, and purchased over 1.2 billion vaccines for low-income countries, and donated 600 million vaccines from the United States\u2019 own supply.<\/p>\n

In close collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, the U.S. Government provides more than $500 million in annual assistance to improve the quality of education and healthcare, promote economic prosperity, and support the overall development of the nation.<\/p>\n
