Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s Ministry of Health this Thursday reported the first case of monkeypox diagnosed in the country. The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago.<\/p>\n

The case was detected yesterday (October 5) in Maputo city. The patient is an adult male, who was tested on the same day, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

Armindo Tiago told a press conference that the individual in question has a travel history and, at the moment, the process of tracing all possible contacts, for testing, is underway.<\/p>\n

Proximity is a necessary factor for the transmission of monkeypox: the disease occurs when the individual has very close and direct contact with an infected animal, or with infected individuals through the secretions of the skin and mucous lesions or respiratory droplets.<\/p>\n

Monkeypox can also be contracted through prolonged contact with the contaminated possessions of infected people, such as clothing, bedding and towels.<\/p>\n
