Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique will receive \u20ac23 million to tackle the food crisis, the European Union (EU) delegation in the country said in a statement issued on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Of the total, \u20ac8 million are for emergency support.<\/p>\n

The aim is to help \u201cmitigate growing food insecurity\u201d in the face of \u201cuncertain climatic and macroeconomic conditions\u201d, the document said.<\/p>\n

The funds are part of a \u20ac600 million European Development Fund measure announced on 24 September to finance immediate humanitarian food aid, food production and the resilience of food systems in the most vulnerable African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.<\/p>\n

The funding \u201cwill focus on where humanitarian needs are highest\u201d and where \u201cprogrammes have been identified to sustainably enhance food security and resilience,\u201d today\u2019s statement added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis support will help partner countries and vulnerable people address the unjust consequences\u201d of the war in Ukraine, the EU details.<\/p>\n

Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen detailed in September that \u201cin the short term\u201d the EU is helping families \u201cwith food and nutrition assistance and helping countries buy the food they need.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarc\u030cic\u030c added that \u201chumanitarian aid cannot replace the efforts needed to increase the resilience of the most vulnerable populations\u201d, meaning \u201csustainable development-oriented solutions to end hunger are key\u201d.<\/p>\n
