Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government reaffirms its commitment to continue investing in tourism, which is one of the pillars for country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

As a recognition of its potential the government eased entry visa requirements to increase the number of tourists visiting the country which, in turn, will stimulate the growth of Mozambique\u2019s economy and fast track the recovery of various sectors which were severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Mozambican Filipe Nyusi renewed this commitment this Thursday in Maputo, at the opening ceremony of the VIII edition of the International Tourism Fair (FIKANI), which brings together exhibitors from all Mozambican provinces, as well as from the neighbouring countries Eswatini and South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cMozambique is today affirming itself as a reference player in the region\u2019s tourism industry offering reliable and quality services throughout the industrial chain, throughout the country, especially on the five main tourist destinations namely Maputo, Vilankulo, Gorongosa, Quirimbas and Niassa\u2032\u2032, he noted.<\/p>\n

For this reason, Nyusi added, in the package of measures approved for the acceleration of the economy, a prominent place is given to the recovery of the tourism sector, noting the establishment of tax incentives for new investments in key sectors to be carried out in the coming years, including tourism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe measures include simplification of procedures for the repatriation of capital, revision of the general regime of entry visas to promote greater flow of tourists and businesspeople, which is underway and, recently, the adoption of the electronic visa and the simplification of administrative processes in the relationship between the State, companies and people,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n

The VIII edition of FIKANI is held under the theme: \u201cTourism as a Factor of Economic Revitalization\u201d. According to Nyusi, the choice of this theme clearly illustrates the understanding that reviving of the economy, in a context marked by uncertainties and adversities is the major challenge currently facing the country.<\/p>\n

In Mozambique, these adversities include terrorist attacks in some districts of the northern province of Cabo Delgado, despite the bravery of the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FDS) and their partners.<\/p>\n

Coordination attacks in the last few months helped to restore peace and tranquillity in most of the affected areas, which have allowed gradual return of displaced people to their homes.<\/p>\n

Through FIKANI, Mozambique intends, on the one hand, to show to the world its best in terms of culture and tourism, and to make the world aware of the beauty of the country.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, at an institutional level, it is intended to stimulate the consolidation of a favourable environment for rapprochement and constructive dialogue between the government, as a regulator, and the players in the tourism industry.<\/p>\n

The organizers expect to over five thousand international visitors up from 4,300 in 2019.<\/p>\n

Nyusi explains that this rise, although comparatively small, it is a clear sign of trust that the target group has placed on FIKANI as a privileged space for the establishment of partnerships and attract investment opportunities to the sector.<\/p>\n
