{"id":27888,"date":"2022-10-16T16:40:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-16T16:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/at-least-126-injured-in-moamba-road-accident"},"modified":"2022-10-16T16:45:20","modified_gmt":"2022-10-16T16:45:20","slug":"at-least-126-injured-in-moamba-road-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/at-least-126-injured-in-moamba-road-accident","title":{"rendered":"At least 126 injured in Moamba road accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>At least 126 people were injured, including 29 seriously, when the adapted heavy vehicle in which they were travelling crashed and overturned Wednesday night in southern Mozambique, the authorities said today.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle involved in the accident in Moamba was carrying 138 workers from a company, of which 29 were seriously injured, 97 had minor injuries, and 12 were unharmed, Juarce Martins, a police spokesman in Maputo province, told the media.<\/p>\n<p>The police said speeding was the presumed cause of the accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an articulated vehicle\u201d and \u201cthe driver did not have adequate dexterity in the section\u201d that he was crossing added the police spokesman, noting that the driver had been \u201cdetained for investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The victims were taken to local hospitals and 106 have been released, said Ca\u0301tia Fonseca, director of the emergency service at Matola provincial hospital, noting that it was necessary to \u201creinforce the team\u201d at the unit.<\/p>\n<p>The number of road accidents in Mozambique is classified as dramatic by several organisations.<\/p>\n<p>The Mozambican authorities have pointed to speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol as the main causes of accidents.<\/p>\n<p>On average, at least 1,000 people die on the roads each year, according to figures provided to Lusa by the Mozambican Association for Victims of Road Safety (Amviro).<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\">Mozambique<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
