Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>iDE is announcing it has been awarded US$25 million by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to lead a project dedicated to boosting livelihoods and building resilience among vulnerable communities living on Mozambique\u2019s northern coastline.<\/p>\n

Under the Feed the Future Resilient Coastal Communities (FtF RCC) project, iDE and partner organizations H2N, Rare, Terra Firma and Dobbin International, will implement innovative approaches to assist coastal communities and nurture marine ecosystems that are vulnerable to climatic shocks and environmental degradation.<\/p>\n

The 54-month project will target young people located between Pemba (Cabo Delgado) and Maganja da Costa (Zambezia), working to boost their participation in sustainably managing natural resources, building food and fisheries systems, enabling the creation of more climate resilient, diversified livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Working with the public and private sector, civil society and faith-based stakeholders, FtF RCC will also develop and pilot approaches that will create a significant number of jobs and sustainable economic opportunities for youth and women. At the same time, FtF RCC will aim to positively impact the long-term health and productivity of critical ecosystems, particularly the nearby marine ecosystems that are vital to food security among the local coastal population.<\/p>\n

Stefano Gasparini, iDE Mozambique Country Director, is looking forward to supporting coastal communities and expanding equitable opportunities for green growth in a geographic area that has been impacted by lacking management, an influx of internally displaced people and a lack of investment in local business sectors and industries.<\/p>\n

\u201ciDE will leverage its deep experience developing market systems and growing rural entrepreneurs to develop sustainable livelihood and employment opportunities that benefit both the community and the natural environment,\u201d said the Country Director.<\/p>\n
