Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Malawian authorities are facing limitations related to the availability of financial resources to support logistics services from the Port of Nacala in Nampula. Consequently, they want to obtain credit facilities for the export and import of grain in bulk, fertilisers and other types of goods.<\/p>\n

Malawi has been using the Port of Nacala for a long time, with cereals and fertilisers being the main commodities. But, at the moment, the neighbouring country is facing limitations of a financial nature.<\/p>\n

To avoid embarrassment in cases of delays in the disbursement of amounts for the payment of logistics services, the Malawian ministers of Transport, Communications Jacob Hara, and of Public Works and of Land and Urban Planning Samuel Kawale, visited the Port of Nacala, where they interacted with Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, expressing their country\u2019s interest in using logistics services on a credit basis.<\/p>\n

Rehabilitation completed by the end of this year<\/b><\/p>\n

The government expects the rehabilitation of the Port of Nacala, in Nampula province, to be completed by the end of this year, the Minister of Transport and Communications announced on Monday after visiting the facility accompanied by the two Malawian ministers. Magala added that the works were progressing satisfactorily.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy, because everything indicates that the works will be concluded by December. As you can see here, we have great infrastructure in place, great equipment that will greatly increase productivity and we can certainly absorb more cargo, both for Mozambique and for countries like Malawi,\u201d Mateus Magala said.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Minister of Transport and Public Works of Malawi, Jacob Hara, said yesterday that the modernization and expansion of the port of Nacala would allow imports and exports from his country to increase.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that Nacala will be our biggest port, because with a higher capacity, it is clearly the shortest route compared to the other ports we use,\u201d Hara told journalists.<\/p>\n
