{"id":28096,"date":"2022-10-19T16:17:04","date_gmt":"2022-10-19T16:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/rovuma-gas-expected-to-be-0-3-of-total-2023-state-revenue"},"modified":"2022-10-19T16:22:38","modified_gmt":"2022-10-19T16:22:38","slug":"rovuma-gas-expected-to-be-0-3-of-total-2023-state-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/rovuma-gas-expected-to-be-0-3-of-total-2023-state-revenue","title":{"rendered":"Rovuma gas expected to be 0.3% of total 2023 state revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Rovuma gas is expected to represent 0.3% of the total revenue of the Mozambican state in 2023, which will be the first full year of production from the Coral Sul floating liquefied natural gas platform (FLNG), according to the State Budget draft for 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf the amount foreseen for State revenue, 1.25 billion meticais (\u20ac20 million) comes from natural gas from Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin,\u201d reads the document to be discussed in parliament and published on Tuesday on the Ministry of Economy and Finance website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number comes from the medium-term fiscal scenario,\u201d a ministry source explained to Lusa.<\/p>\n<p>Rovuma gas, off Cabo Delgado, a province affected by an armed insurgency and a humanitarian crisis, accounts for just 0.3% of total revenue collection, which is expected to reach 357 billion meticais (\u20ac5.7 thousand million) in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Revenues from the extractive sector, including gas, should help to create a sovereign wealth fund this year, to which 40% of them will be channelled, according to the proposed sovereign fund law.<\/p>\n<p>Rovuma\u2019s general gas revenues are expected to grow as exploitation of the reserves progresses.<\/p>\n<p>The Coral Sul FLNG platform, anchored off Cabo Delgado, has been extracting gas to feed its on-board liquefaction plant since mid-year.<\/p>\n<p>The first export cargo vessel has arrived and should connect to the platform to be filled up in the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>The FLNG project, led by Italian oil company Eni, will produce 3.4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas a year for BP, which has bought all output for the first 20 years\u2019 production.<\/p>\n<p>There are two other larger projects in the Rovuma basin, led by TotalEnergies and by ExxonMobil\/Eni, which could each produce four to five times as much as the Coral Sul FLNG.<\/p>\n<p>However, these projects include liquefaction plants on land (on the Afungi peninsula), and are awaiting decisions to proceed from the oil companies, suspended as a result of insecurity in the region.<\/p>\n<p>In forecasts made in 2020, Mozambique expected, with all three LNG projects up and running, to receive US$96 billion US (roughly the same amount in Euros) over the lifetime of reserves \u2013 almost five times the country\u2019s annual gross domestic product (GDP).<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, armed violence in Cabo Delgado has caused onshore investments to be suspended, and only the Coral Sul platform is completed and operational.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\">Mozambique<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
