Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambique\u2019s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, Carlos Zacarias, has expressed interest in the country joining the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) as a full member, according to a note from the ministry.<\/p>\n

Zacarias announced his aspiration during a meeting with GECF secretary general Mohamed Hamel, within the scope of the body\u2019s ministerial meeting in Cairo, Egypt, newspaper Noti\u0301cias reports.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, Hamel said that Mozambique would become the fifth largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world, once production starts in the Rovuma basin in the north of the country.<\/p>\n

Hamel appealed to the country to continue to develop a legal and regulatory framework suitable for the oil industry.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s GECF meeting in Cairo has on its agenda a discussion of the global gas market, the GECF executive committee\u2019s management report and a review of long-term strategy.<\/p>\n

The GECF is an intergovernmental organisation created for the exchange of experiences between member countries, producers and consumers with a view to improving the stability and security of supply and demand in the world\u2019s gas market.<\/p>\n

The full-fledged Members of the GECF are: Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.<\/p>\n

Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique, Norway, Peru, and UAE currently hold the status of Observers.<\/p>\n

The organization\u2019s member countries between them hold 72% of the world\u2019s gas reserves, and oversee 43% of commercial production.<\/p>\n
