{"id":28527,"date":"2022-10-28T16:12:35","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T16:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/spanish-prosecutors-drop-charges-against-football-star-neymar"},"modified":"2022-10-28T16:51:46","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T16:51:46","slug":"spanish-prosecutors-drop-charges-against-football-star-neymar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\/all-news\/spanish-prosecutors-drop-charges-against-football-star-neymar","title":{"rendered":"Spanish prosecutors drop charges against football star Neymar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Spanish prosecutors said on Friday that they cleared Neymar and several others of corruption and fraud charges related to the Brazilian football star\u2019s transfer to FC Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors initially argued that Neymar should receive a two-year prison term and \u20ac10 million ($9.97 million) fine for conspiring to conceal the true price of his transfer to the Spanish team from Brazilian firm DIS, which owned 40% of the football player\u2019s rights at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Neymar\u2019s parents, two ex-presidents of FC Barcelona and the ex-head of the Brazilian football team Santos all faced charges.<\/p>\n<p>However, after hearing weeks of testimony from several high-profile witnesses, Spanish authorities decided to acquit everyone involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no evidence or proof, only allegations. Or at least it hasn\u2019t been demonstrated,\u201d said prosecutor Luis Garcia Canton. \u201cBrazilian civil law and FIFA codes were broken, but not (Spain\u2019s) penal code.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet Brazilian firm DIS is still pressing forward with private charges against everyone except Neymar\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<p>DIS argues that it lost out on millions of dollars when Neymar signed a \u20ac40 million contract with FC Barcelona in 2011 behind its back, which did not figure into the official transfer price.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish prosecutors found nothing criminal about the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u20ac40 million paid for Neymar was a signing bonus, not a bribe,\u201d said Garcia Canton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/mozambique\">Mozambique<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Mozambique.
