Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he will \u201ccorrect\u201d Antony if he feels the Brazil winger is unnecessarily showboating. Antony\u2019s moment of trickery during Thursday\u2019s Europa League match did not impress Erik ten Hag.<\/p>\n

Antony, United\u2019s \u00a385m summer signing, entertained the home fans during Thursday\u2019s 3-0 Europa League Group E win over Sheriff Tiraspol by producing a 720-degree spin with the ball stuck to his left foot.<\/p>\n

His next move was to knock it straight out for a Sheriff goal-kick. Ten Hag denied it was the reason he substituted Antony at half-time. \u201cI don\u2019t have a problem with tricks as long as it\u2019s functional,\u201d said Ten Hag, who also managed Antony at Ajax.<\/p>\n

\u201cI demand more from him – more runs behind, more often in the box and more playing in the pocket.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen there is a trick like that, it\u2019s nice as long as it\u2019s functional. If you\u2019re not losing the ball, then it\u2019s OK – but if it\u2019s a trick because of a trick, then I will correct him.<\/p>\n

\nAntony has started all of United\u2019s eight matches so far in a busy October, playing the full 90 minutes of last Saturday\u2019s 1-1 Premier League draw at Chelsea but was replaced with Marcus Rashford at half-time during the 3-0 win against Moldovan champions Sheriff.<\/p>\n

Asked if that substitution was a reaction to Antony\u2019s showboating, Ten Hag said: \u201cNo. It was more or less planned if we were up. \u201cI wanted to see Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo close together and the dynamic on the right side.<\/p>\n

\nFormer Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, however, says Ten Hag will have been \u201cfrustrated\u201d by a move that came to nothing – with television pictures showing the manager shaking his head in reaction.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou saw his reaction on the bench,\u201d said Scholes on BT Sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just don\u2019t know what it achieves?
\n\u201cThis crowd, and me, I love a bit of showboating, I love a bit of entertainment, but that does do anything for anybody? Does that do anything for himself? I don\u2019t know what it achieves.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if you\u2019re 3-0 or 4-0, what does that do for you? I\u2019m not even sure it\u2019s a skill, is it? I like to see skill and entertainment, but I\u2019m not sure that is skill or entertainment – it\u2019s just being a clown.<\/p>\n

Owen Hargreaves, another former United midfielder, said he thought such showboating was fine as long as it had a purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re curious.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re thinking: What\u2019s he going to do? I think we all want to see skill – we all love that – but you need skill with function and need something moving forward,\u201d said Hargreaves.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he does it in or around someone, I\u2019ll be jumping out of my seat.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has come a very long way [in his career] to be at Old Trafford. He probably wanted to show this skill that he does everywhere he goes.<\/p>\n
