Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The European Union (EU) today signed six financing agreements with Mozambique worth \u20ac148.2 million to support development programmes in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really important to stand together these days and provide assistance to people affected by insecurity,\u201d said Dubravka Suica, European Commission Vice-President for Democracy and Demography after the signing ceremony in Maputo.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this reason, the package includes a set of measures specifically dedicated to the north of the country,\u201d which complement EU actions \u201cin the field of building peace and security\u201d in Cabo Delgado, a province affected by terrorism since 2017, she explained.<\/p>\n

On the Mozambican side, the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonc\u0327alves, highlighted the role of the European Union as \u201cone of the biggest bilateral cooperation partners, providing its valuable contribution so that Mozambicans can face their challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

The agreements are intended to fund activities in six areas: education, water and sanitation, energy efficiency and digitalisation, entrepreneurship, culture and resilience in the north of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the end of the year, two additional programmes on nutrition and climate change resilience will be adopted, with a budget of \u20ac45 million,\u201d Dubravka Suica added.<\/p>\n
