Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) is demanding that the exclusivity allowance for teachers and doctors be reinstated, so that they are motivated to work. The party has also criticised the Single Salary Table (TSU) for not allowing civil servants to reach Level 21 in their careers.<\/p>\n

Teachers have complained about aspects of the Single Salary Table, even threatening to stop classes. In some schools, a silent \u201cstrike\u201d is already being felt.<\/p>\n

Doctors are also unhappy with the Single Salary Table which, they say, takes away a good part of their perks. They have met several times, deciding at the last meeting that they would go on strike from November 5th.<\/p>\n

This Monday, the Democratic Movement of Mozambique convened a press conference to announce its position on the situation described above, and declared itself in favour of the two groups of professionals.<\/p>\n

The MDM is demanding that subsidies for both classes be reinstated on the grounds that they will thus be more motivated to work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge the government to reinstate the subsidies to teachers, namely 15% exclusivity and an increase in the research subsidy of 15%,\u201d MDM president Lutero Simango said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge [doctors] to have returned their exclusivity allowance to 30% and increase the risk allowance to 15%, thus allowing doctors to carry out their activities with more motivation, responsibility and commitment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The opposition party\u2019s criticisms do not stop there. The \u201crooster\u201d says that, due to the way the Single Salary Table was conceived, it caps the career progression of civil servants.<\/p>\n

For example, Simango says, the TSU does not allow civil servants to amass 91 points, denying them access to the maximum career level of 21.<\/p>\n

The government is to blame, according to the MDM.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Frelimo government is acting in bad faith by not allowing any Mozambican civil servant to reach the top of the table for his\/her selfless dedication to the civil service exercised with pride and dedication throughout his professional life,\u201d Simango alleges.<\/p>\n

In his opinion, this could create or aggravate other problems: \u201cThis attitude favours nepotism, friendship relations and partisanship. The MDM is for the de-partisanship of the Mozambican state.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mozambican Democratic Movement suggests that a platform be identified for discussing and correcting the anomalies of the Single Salary Table, which distort the acknowledgement of academic levels and degrees.<\/p>\n
