Africa-Press – Mozambique. <\/strong><\/span>The Mozambican government will spray over 1.7 million households to prevent an increase in malaria cases during the current rainy season, an official source announced on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe insecticides we will use are proven by the World Health Organization. Their effect on mosquito mortality happens in the medium and short term, in a minimum period of six months,\u201d said Deputy Health Minister Farida Urci, quoted by daily Noti\u0301cias today.<\/p>\n

In total, according to the source, the authorities expect the spraying to cover a total of 7.6 million people in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane and Zambe\u0301zia as part of a campaign aimed at reducing cases of malaria during the rainy season, which runs from October to March in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that there are many people who refuse to join the campaigns, claiming that insecticides attract other insects, which is not true\u201d the deputy health minister said.<\/p>\n

Official figures released by the ministry of health indicate that in the first eight months of this year, 8.4 million cases of the disease were registered in Mozambique, as compared to 7.1 million in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
